This project started with a simple question:

Where does a bag of dirt from the hardware store actually come from?

From that small curiosity grew a bigger one—about soil, about commerce, about history, about how we came to buy what we used to simply dig up.

The book is underway.

Here, you'll find occasional glimpses into the work: sidebars, curiosities, and unfinished thoughts that sprouted along the way. Think of them as soil samples: small, specific, and sometimes surprising.
